More “Fix Now” Capabilities
You could say we have added a bucket full of “Fix Now” capabilities to several of our Best Practice Checks. These go beyond telling you when you should make a change, by actually automating the fix at the click of a button. We now support several automated fixes for S3 Bucket permissions. We also can fix problems like RDS Database instances that are publicly accessible, but shouldn’t be. Sometimes folks rely on security through obscurity but that’s not a good idea. Your database should only be accessible from approved sources. Also we can fix when SNS topics with permission set to ‘everyone’ This is important as you wouldn’t want everyone to be able to send notifications.
Best Practice Check: CloudTrail Integrated with CloudWatch Logs
CloudTrail is great for monitoring your infrastructure, but to be truly secure you also need to monitor your operating system events. That’s what CloudWatch does, so integrating CloudWatch and CloudTrail gives you the complete picture. Our new Best Practice Check makes sure you’ve done this.
New IoT Summary and Detail Reports
The Internet of Things is big and getting bigger. That makes it even more important to get reports on devices other than computers that are connecting to your network. That’s why we have new reports, both summary and detail, for Internet of Things.
Data Collection and Reporting
For Azure, when we collect Billing Data, we also now track the Resource Group so you can better understand who used what using the Advanced Grouping Report. For Blob Storage, i.e. Binary Large Object storage, we collect monitoring metrics as well and those can be viewed in the Inventory -> Storage Accounts Report. Azure accounts can now view and filter their tag inventory within the Cost > Tagging menu.
Budget and Cost Alerts Using Comparative Functions
While you could spend all day staring at or even using the CloudCheckr dashboard, you have other work to do. So we can send you alerts based on filters for certain conditions. When configuring budget alerts within the Cost > Alerts menu, you can now based the budget on saved filters. Within the Cost > Alerts > Manage menu, there is now the ability to create a cost alert based on cost fluctuations, instead of by budget. This alert will look at the cost over a user-defined period of time and compares that against the average costs over a previous period of time to find fluctuations. The alert can be triggered based on cost or percentage fluctuations.
